Design protection is a registration which serves to protect the appearance and design of a product so that others cannot, without permission, market a similar product.

Design protection secures the company the exclusive right to the product for a period of 25 years.

In order to obtain design protection for a product, the product must, at the time of filing the application, be new and may not be similar in design to existing products on the market.
